I’m Me
August 17, 2008
I’ve always been the inquisitive type to go out and learn new things. I join forums looking for information, social networks looking for peers, and download informative materials on whatever avenue I’m looking in at the time. I’ve come to find out that everyone wants to be the top dog, the attention, or just the rank in their certain niche; they want to be labeled.
My opinions on labels has already been touched on here before, but I began to pay more attention to other people and what they allow themselves or even want to be labeled. I frequent a Black Hat forum where every n00b that joins decides he is a blackhatter. You see it in all their posts ‘we blackhatters’, ‘us blackhatters’, and so forth. I laugh and scoff at them because it’s like they couldn’t do anything black hat if they tried, but they think joining a black hat forum makes them a blackhatter. It’s crazy! Insane! I love it! I mean I really do! These are the same n00bs who are making requests after requests yet not able to fulfill any [including their own]. I’m amazed sometimes at how easily accessible the product/ebook is they are looking for yet they call themselves a blackhatter…they want so much to be ‘in’ the black hat community that they label themselves accordingly…yet they do not know a single black hat technique more than what is posted within the forums.
I see it in webmaster forums. Everyone is an SEO god or goddess just because they got a single site indexed high in google [never mind that it ranks for something obscure and off the wall...]. People think they are the next guru just because they made some quick change online. Hell the real ‘gurus’ out there are merely good bullshitters. They sell rehashed [meaning same shit but with a different 'spin'] crap for hundreds and thousands of dollars, and people praise them for it. They do not care that you already know what they are going to spill; they want the money you are willing to give them merely because they are a guru. You wouldn’t give me the same amount of money selling the same material because you don’t know me [well...you may...but I have not revealed my identity here so you cannot truly know me]. Yet you know these gurus are out there selling rehashed crap and you still buy into it. Makes sense…I’m sure…somehow…somewhere….
I’m tired of seeing everyone label themselves when they do not even know the ramifications of that label. They do not know what power the label gives them. They do not know how to use the label properly. They do not know how to represent the label properly. They do not know that with the label comes responsibility. They just want the label without the workout.
I’m me. I can do without labels. I actually prefer no labels because then I have no expectations of me as a person. If I have no expectations to live up to, I can never fail as a person either! Despite what some would have many come to believe, I do not seek glory of any kind. I don’t because with glory comes the microscope of ridicule and cynicism. I am the type of person who only wants to socialize on my time, not anyone else’s so I cannot handle people poking and prodding at me for no other reason than to find out if I live up to my label.
You all may like your labels, want your labels, and embrace your labels, but I say you can keep them. I’ll even try and find some for you to add to your portfolio if you prefer, but as for me, I’m just me. Nothing more, nothing less, but still unique. ![]()
