Running Out of Time
May 28, 2008
Time is a precious commodity. People often underestimate its value because they do not take the time (no pun intended…really) to think about it. Time is the one thing you can give a person that you cannot regenerate. Once you have spent even five minutes of your time on them, you cannot get that five minutes back. That is in the past, and we cannot go into the past.
But people tend to take advantage of time more than they do spend it. They think they have all the time in the world to hate, disrespect, or hurt on even the ones they love. They will learn from their mistakes, right? And that is what life is all about, right? But why do they have to wait until it is too late? So often we hear that; we hear of lost opportunities, lost loves, and lost chances period. So sure that that one person will always be there, that that one job position is always yours, or that you will always get that chance to tell your mother that you love her, that we grow complacent in taking advantage of life.
I take every day for what it is: a gift. I let my lover know how important, special, and amazing she is to me. Every day. I let my friends know that they are my friends, I do my job to its fullest even though I hate it, and I always try to show respect to anyone I come into contact with. Life is too short, and time is never on my side. I would rather know that if I died on my way home from work, my girlfriend knew how important she was to me. I would rather know that if I died today, my friends would speak well of me. I would rather know that if I died today, I left on a good note.
Time is so precious. Why waste it? Why throw it away? Why wait until it is too late?
